Short Information
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC JE 2026) has released the official notification for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026 to fill posts across various Central Government organizations, along with Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department. A total of 1748 vacancies (tentative) are on offer. Online applications can be submitted from September 02, 2026, to September 22, 2026, with fee payment permitted until September 23, 2026. The Computer Based Examination will be held in two stages: Paper-I (tentatively October/November 2026) and Paper-II (tentatively December 2026). Eligible engineering graduates and diploma holders in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Telecom and allied disciplines can apply through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application after completing One-Time Registration (OTR).

Detailed Eligibility
- Experience, wherever prescribed, must be acquired after completion of the required educational qualification; internship, training, or research experience gained during the course of a degree/diploma is not counted.
- Qualifications obtained through Open and Distance Learning (ODL)/Online mode in restricted disciplines such as Engineering are not accepted unless permitted by the applicable statutory/regulatory authority, in line with UGC (ODL and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020.
- Only male candidates are eligible to apply for JE posts under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
- Candidates applying for BRO posts must separately satisfy the Physical Efficiency Test, Physical and Medical Standards described in the official notification.
- Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to an eligibility certificate where applicable).
Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
Reservation and category-wise vacancy determination rests with the respective Indenting Organizations, not the Commission. Barring BRO, JE posts have been identified as suitable for specific categories of benchmark disabilities (such as Hearing Impairment, Locomotor Disability, Specific Learning Disability, and Multiple Disabilities), as detailed in the official notification. JE posts (other than JE-Telecom in DoT) are not identified as suitable for Visually Handicapped candidates.
Selection Process
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination) – Qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II based on normalized marks obtained in Paper-I.
- Paper-II (Computer Based Examination) – Marks obtained here determine the final merit.
- Document Verification (DV) – Conducted by the concerned User Department after declaration of the final result.
- Post Preference & Allocation – Based on post preference submitted online and normalized marks in Paper-II.
- Physical/Medical Standards (BRO only) – Applicable specifically to candidates selected for JE posts in the Border Roads Organisation.
Separate merit lists are prepared for JE (Civil), JE (Electrical & Mechanical), JE (Telecom), and Scientific Assistant (IMD).

How to Apply
- Visit the official SSC website (https://ssc.gov.in) and complete One-Time Registration (OTR), if not already done on the new website.
- Log in and proceed to fill the Online Application Form for SSC JE Examination 2026.
- Enter personal, educational, and post-preference details as applicable.
- Capture a live photograph as prompted by the application module (pre-existing photographs are not accepted unless Aadhaar-based authentication is used).
- Upload scanned signature in the prescribed format and size.
- Upload disability certificates, if applicable, for PwBD/PwD candidates.
- Pay the applicable fee through online payment modes (not required for exempted categories).
- Preview and verify all entered details before final submission.
- Submit the form and retain a printout/copy for future reference.
Applications can also be submitted through the mySSC mobile application, available on the Google Play Store.
Other Important Information
- The old OTR generated on the previous SSC website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid for the new website (ssc.gov.in); fresh OTR is required.
- Candidates opting for Aadhaar-Based Authentication during OTR are exempted from certain photograph/signature-related rejection grounds and from carrying physical photo-ID at the exam centre.
- A correction facility is available from 28.09.2026 to 30.09.2026, allowing up to two rounds of correction, with charges of ₹200 for the first correction and ₹500 for the second.
- Candidates can select up to three examination centres, in order of preference, within the same SSC region.
- Scribe/Technology/Assistive Device facility is available for eligible PwBD/PwD candidates, along with 20 minutes per hour of compensatory time, subject to conditions specified in the notice.
- The Commission does not maintain a waiting list for multi-factor examinations but applies a sliding mechanism to maximize the filling of notified vacancies.
- Selected candidates will be on probation for two years and carry an All India Service Liability (AISL), meaning they may be posted anywhere in India.
- Objections to the provisional answer key may be raised online on payment of ₹50 per question (non-refundable); objections through any other mode will not be entertained.
- Tie-cases in merit are resolved sequentially using: marks in Part (i) of Paper-I, marks in Part (ii) of Paper-I, older date of birth, and alphabetical order of names.
